Tamil Nadu government on February 16 signed two MoUs worth a combined Rs 5,980 crore with Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi and Karnataka-based Aequs Group. The projects are expected to generate 8,400 jobs.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin at an event organised by the state’s Department of Industry, Investment Promotion and Commerce at the Secretariat in Chennai.
MinebeaMitsumi to set up semiconductor facility
Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi will invest Rs 1,980 crore to establish a manufacturing facility for high-value semiconductor products, electrical equipment and motors at Mahindra Origins Industrial Park in Tiruvallur district.
The project will manufacture components such as insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and integrated circuits (ICs), and will include a dedicated research and development (R&D) centre.
The facility is expected to provide guaranteed employment to 1,400 people, with more than 40 percent of the roles earmarked for highly skilled workers.
MinebeaMitsumi manufactures semiconductor products, motors, sensors and electrical appliances globally, and the Tamil Nadu unit is aimed at strengthening its presence in India’s growing electronics and semiconductor ecosystem.
Aequs Group to invest in aerospace, defence complex
Separately, Aequs Group signed an MoU to invest Rs 4,000 crore to set up an aerospace and defence manufacturing complex at the SIPCOT-Soolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district.
The proposed facility will manufacture aircraft engines, gearbox components, mechanical systems and precision engineering products. The company has committed to generating 7,000 jobs through the project.
“The investment will further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s positioning as a hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing, adding to the state’s growing industrial base,” said a statement.
State’s investment push
Tamil Nadu government said the twin investments reflect its continued focus on attracting large-scale projects, creating employment for youth and women, and accelerating industrial growth.
Senior state officials, including Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, Chief Secretary N Muruganantham and other government representatives, along with executives from MinebeaMitsumi and Aequs Group, were present at the signing ceremony.
