The Election Commission of India on Tuesday released draft electoral rolls for Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after completing a Special Intensive Revision exercise, resulting in the deletion of a large number of voter names.
According to the poll body, more than 22 lakh names were removed from the electoral rolls in Kerala. In Madhya Pradesh, over 42 lakh entries were deleted, while Chhattisgarh saw the removal of more than 27 lakh voter names.
The release of the draft rolls comes days after the Election Commission published revised voter data for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where verification led to the deletion of over 1.55 crore names.
Kerala
In Kerala, enumeration forms were collected from 2,54,42,352 electors, covering 91.35 per cent of the electorate. The revision process identified 6,49,885 deceased voters, accounting for 2.33 per cent of the total, 14,61,769 electors who had shifted residence or were not available, and 1,36,029 voters found to be enrolled at multiple locations.
Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, enumeration forms were collected from around 5.31 crore electors. The deletions included 8.46 lakh deceased voters, 31.51 lakh electors who had shifted or could not be traced, and 2.77 lakh voters enrolled at more than one place.
The Election Commission said booth-level officers were unable to locate some electors or did not receive enumeration forms because the individuals had migrated to other states or Union Territories, did not exist at the listed addresses, failed to submit forms by December 18, 2025, or chose not to remain on the rolls.
Chhattisgarh
In Chhattisgarh, enumeration forms were collected from 1,84,95,920 electors. The revision led to the deletion of 6,42,234 deceased voters, 19,13,540 electors who had shifted or were absent, and 1,79,043 voters found to be enrolled at multiple places.
The poll body clarified that eligible voters whose names were removed can still seek inclusion during the claims and objections period, which will remain open from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026.
The Election Commission said the Special Intensive Revision exercise is aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral rolls by removing duplicate and ineligible entries, while ensuring that genuine voters have an adequate opportunity to correct or restore their names before the final rolls are notified.
