Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday mocked the Congress over its Lok Sabha election performance while recalling the iconic scene from "Sholay" of Amitabh Bachchan's interaction with "Mausi ji".
The Prime Minister was responding to the motion of thanks on President's address in Lok Sabha amid constant sloganeering by opposition MPs.
Speaking about Congress winning 99 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi said that the grand old party is trying to project it as a victory.
"You all must remember the Mausi from Sholay - [imitating Big B] 'Arey mausi teesri baar toh haare hai…(they have lost only for the third time) ... but mausi it's at least a moral victory', Are Mausi ji 13 Rajyon me zero seat aayi hai to kya hua hero to hai na.. (Mausi, we got zero seat in 13 states but I am a hero," PM Modi said amid laughter from the treasury benches.

In the iconic "Mausi" scene from the classic Bollywood film, Amitabh Bachchan's character, Jai, humorously and skillfully persuades Mausi (played by Leela Mishra) to agree to the marriage proposal for Basanti (Hema Malini) and Veeru (Dharmendra).
With his witty and charming dialogue delivery, Jai emphasises Veeru's love for Basanti and his determination to win her hand, despite his flaws.

During his address, PM Modi also mocked the Congress's performance by comparing it to a child proudly claiming to have scored 99 marks on an exam, while everyone else laughs because the child scored 99 out of 543, not 100.
On Monday, Congress MP and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi made a fiery speech in the lower house and targeted the government over several issues, including the NEET exam fiasco and Agniveer scheme.
