Amid a spate of anti-Hindu attacks in Bangladesh, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday said the incidents in the neighbouring country are similar to the communalism seen in India.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said that communal and radical elements target in minorities in India as well and the same reaction is being witnessed in Bangladesh.
"The conditions ... in our country... here too there are the same kind of radicals target minorities ... that same reaction is being seen in Bangladesh. We condemn what is happening in Bangladesh against minorities. Yunus needs to act convincingly," he said.
Though Singh did not elaborate, his remarks were seen as an indirect dig at the right-wing groups in India. In the past too, Singh has often raised concerns over what he described as the “radicalisation of Hindus” in the country, suggesting that it is as dangerous as radicalisation of Muslims.
Earlier this year, Singh alleged that a "disturbing trend" was being observed in the country wherein minority communities were being treated as enemies and falsely implicated by the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in states.
The remarks come in the backdrop of escalating anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh, compounded by the barbaric mob lynching of a Hindu man.
Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das, 27, was brutally killed in Mymensingh amid allegations that he insulted Prophet Muhammed. However, reports emerged later that some co-workers tried to frame him with false accusations.
