'Physically tired, mentally unfit': Prashant Kishor calls for Nitish Kumar's resignation

Political activist and Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor called for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to resign on Sunday, arguing that Kumar's ability to govern has been compromised due to both physical exhaustion and mental unfitness.

Kishor, who previously worked as Kumar’s aide, made these statements during a press conference in Samastipur. His Jan Suraaj Party is focused on gaining ground in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections later this year.

"The first person to comment on Nitish Kumar's health was his ally, Sushil Kumar Modi... Since then, many Bihar Ministers have commented on his health. I never made a comment on it till January,” Kishor said, as reported by news agency ANI.

He also took a jab at the Chief Minister, suggesting that if anyone wanted "evidence" for his claims, they should ask Nitish to "name the ministers in his council."

“Nitish Kumar should resign. But the BJP deserves equal blame because it’s not possible that the Prime Minister or Home Minister are unaware that Nitish Kumar is mentally unfit,” he said.

His comments followed a viral video in which Nitish Kumar was seen speaking with his chief secretary while the national anthem was playing.

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav had shared a video on the social media platform X on Thursday, showing Nitish Kumar at an event where he appeared to be gesturing and talking while the national anthem was being played. Yadav posted on X, "At least please do not insult the national anthem, Hon'ble Chief Minister. You insult youth, students, women and elderly people every day. Sometimes they clap on Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom day and mock his martyrdom, and sometimes they clap on the national anthem!"

He accused the Bihar CM of being "mentally and physically unstable" and expressed concern over his condition, stating it was a serious issue for the state.

"PS: Let me remind you that you are the Chief Minister of a big state. You are not mentally and physically stable even for a few seconds and your being in this position in such an unconscious state is a matter of great concern for the state. Do not insult Bihar like this again and again," he added in a post on X.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav condemned Nitish Kumar's actions, asserting that the nation would not tolerate the disrespect of the national anthem. He also questioned whether more evidence was needed to demonstrate his weakening leadership.

Meanwhile, a poster targeting the Janata Dal-United leader appeared outside the residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi in Patna.

The poster read, "The non-serious Chief Minister, Jan Jan Man Adhinayan Jay Hai, Nahi Kursi Kursi Kursi Kursi Jay Hai."

Despite the criticism, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant, along with other JDU leaders, has dismissed concerns about his father's health. Nishant insisted that his father is "100% fit" and fully capable of leading the state once more.
