Mumbai hit-and-run case: Rajesh Shah, father of accused Mihir Shah, sacked as Shiv Sena deputy leader

He was relieved from the post after the order of CM Eknath Shinde

Three days after the Worli hit-and-run case in which a 45-year-old woman was killed and her husband was injured, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) on Wednesday removed Rajesh Shah, father of accused Mihir Shah, from the post of deputy leader of the party.

He was relieved from the post after the order of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, according to news agency ANI. Shah, however, continues to be a member of the Shiv Sena.

The development comes a day after Mihir Shah was arrested by the Mumbai Police in the case. Mihir and other accused persons, including Rajesh Shah's driver Rajrishi Bidawat, have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), as per the police.

CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on the morning of July 7, shows Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding pillion on the two-wheeler, being dragged by a BMW car for 1.5 kilometres before the car stopped.

Mihir and Bidawat pulled the woman off the bonnet, placed her on the road, and swapped seats. While reversing the car, Bidawat ran over the victim before fleeing.

Amid an uproar over the incident, particularly from the Opposition, Shiv Sena head Eknath Shinde had asserted no one would be spared such cases.

A day back, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray demanded that the BMW car crash involving 24-year-old Mihir Shah be treated as murder.

"This case should not be treated as a hit-and-run incident. This is a case of murder, and we demand that it should be treated like that," Thackeray said.
