'Lok Sabha results didn't meet expectations but...': Outgoing BJP chief Nadda on resurgence post 2024

True to that trust, Nadda delivered a notable legacy, leading the party as it consolidated strongholds and expanded its footprint despite occasional setbacks, before handing over the baton to his successor Nitin Nabin, elected unopposed as the new BJP chief on Monday.

Outgoing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda on Tuesday reminisced the party's performance in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which was "disappointing" but highlighted the party's spectacular resurgence post the general elections.

While addressing the event where Nitin Nabin took charge as the new party president, Nadda said, "The results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections did not meet our expectations. These results surprised not only the party but also the general public of the country. A sense of disappointment arose in the minds of the country's voters. A feeling of resentment developed among the voters, and you must have seen that the voters of the country resolved that in any upcoming election, they would give their full blessings to Modi ji and work to further the party's progress in the country."

"I remember, after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition was very confident in the Haryana elections. They were already making arrangements to distribute sweets even before the results were declared. They didn't know that the voters of the country and the voters of Haryana had decided to rectify the minor mistakes that had occurred due to overconfidence. They did exactly that in the Haryana elections. We saw a record victory in Maharashtra under the leadership of respected Modi ji... under your leadership, after 27 years, the lotus bloomed in Delhi as well, and the Bharatiya Janata Party government was formed in Delhi," he added.

True to the trust, Nadda has delivered a notable legacy, leading the party as it consolidated strongholds and expanded its footprint despite occasional setbacks, before handing over the baton to his successor Nitin Nabin, elected unopposed as the new BJP chief on Monday.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured 240 seats and had to rely on alliance with Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and TDP to form the government. However, after a not-so favourable general election outcome, BJP saw a resurgence in not just assembly polls but even recently held Maharashtra civic polls.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi in 2025 after more than 26 years by inflicting a crushing defeat on the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the assembly polls. The BJP also stormed to power in Haryana for a third consecutive term and pulled off a stunning performance in Maharashtra, winning a record number of seats and propelling the ruling Mahayuti to a landslide victory.

The NDA's thumping victory in the Bihar assembly polls towards the end of 2025 consolidated the BJP’s electoral dominance under Nadda’s watch after the BJP’s underwhelming performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

And most recently, the BJP alone won on 25 out of 29 wards during the Maharashtra civic polls, including a thumping victory in the BMC polls.
