The body of a naked and headless woman was found in Kanpur's Gujaini area in the wee hours of September 11 leaving locals panic-stricken.
According a report in NDTV, police said the body of the woman, whose identity remains unknown, was first noticed by locals around 6.15am. In a bid to identify the woman and find her head, several teams have been formed.
The discovery of the naked body has led to suspicion that the woman was probably raped and then murdered. The body has been sent for post-mortem in order to confirm the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, police have scanned CCTV footage about 3km from the place where the woman's body was found. As per the footage, a woman of similar physique was seen walking alone a couple of hours before the body was discovered. There is no CCTV camera where the locals found the headless body of the woman, who is believed to be in mid-thirties.
"The woman appears to be 35-year-old. We are in the process of scanning CCTVs installed in and around the area to ascertain the facts that led to her death. The forensic team has been roped in at the scene to collect evidence. Currently, no items have been found at the location except her slippers and broken teeth. Neither the woman's phone, ID, nor any bag was recovered at the site," DCP South Ravindra Kumar told The Times of India.
As per the TOI report, another team which is investigating the case said that the woman may have been killed elsewhere and her body was later thrown at the spot.
"No blood was found at the spot. However, blood was found pooled inside her neck, which made it appear that she had died several hours ago. The woman's arms and legs were broken, which appears to have been crushed by passing vehicles," he said.
