After he sparked controversy for publicly berating a reporter who questioned him about the deaths of 10 people allegedly caused by contaminated drinking water in Madhya Pradesh, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya expressed his regret.
“My team and I have been continuously working to improve the situation in the affected area without sleep for the past two days. My people are suffering from contaminated water, and some have left us; in this state of deep sorrow, my words came out wrong in response to a media question. For this, I express my regret,” he said in a post on X.
The minister also said he won’t sit quietly till people are completely safe and healthy.
A video of the exchange shows Vijayvargiya dismissing the query and using derogatory language, telling the journalist, “Don’t ask me nonsense questions. Tu kya ****** hoke aaya hai?”

What happened in Indore?
Seven persons have died after allegedly consuming contaminated water in Indore, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said amid conflicting claims over the number of fatalities.
Bhargava said a preliminary assessment suggested that drainage water entered the drinking water pipeline due to leakage, which triggered an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting in the Bhagirathpura area.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited hospitals in Indore and met people admitted after falling ill from consuming contaminated water.
The CM Yadav enquired about the health status of the patients and directed officials to ensure proper, timely treatment for all affected. He also asked the district administration to take all necessary steps to prevent further cases.
The Municipal Corporation has been supplying water to households in the affected areas. Ambulances have also been deployed to transport people showing any symptoms to hospitals promptly. The administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure adequate medical care and a safe drinking water supply.
More than 149 have been hospitalised in Indore after consuming contaminated water, prompting the state administration to step up emergency measures.
What does Congress say?
Congress leader Jitu Patwari slammed Vijayvargiya over his controversial comments on the Indore water crisis deaths. In a post on X, he said the "rudeness, shamelessness, and arrogance of BJP leaders remain unchanged".
"And when questions are raised about responsibility for this poisonous water, the minister is using abusive words against the journalist. @drmohanyadav51
What kind of spectacle is your government and your minister creating? The victims are neither getting free treatment nor sympathy, and on top of that, your arrogant minister is using abusive words. If there is even a shred of shame left, then take the immediate resignation from such rude ministers on moral grounds," said Patwari.
