Two militants were killed early Saturday morning in the Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara during an encounter with security forces, the Army said. The exchange of fire took place when the infiltrators, attempting to cross into the valley, were intercepted by a joint team of troops, reported The Indian Express.

Officials said the operation, which began on Friday evening, was launched following intelligence inputs about an infiltration attempt. As troops moved in, they noticed suspicious activity and challenged the suspected infiltrators. “On being cornered, the militants opened indiscriminate fire and tried to break the security cordon,” an official stated.

The Army’s 15 Corps, in a post on X, said, “On 07 Nov 2025, based on specific intelligence input from agencies, regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Contact established and terrorists trapped.”

According to the Army, the militants were surrounded through the night and efforts were made to prevent their escape. The encounter resumed at first light, resulting in the deaths of two infiltrators. “Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation. The search of the area is in progress,” the statement added.

Security agencies have repeatedly warned that militants positioned at launchpads across the border are attempting to enter the valley before heavy snowfall shuts down the high-altitude passes.

Infiltration attempts intensify during October and November as militants try to slip across the Line of Control before winter weather makes such movement nearly impossible, the report said.
