Exit polls predict saffron surge in Delhi: What it means for the BJP

Delhi Exit Poll Results 2025: Most exit polls have shown an advantage for the BJP in the Delhi elections.

The exit poll predictions for the Delhi elections released on Wednesday evening shows the Bharatiya Janata Party heading for a landslide victory in the capital while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party is seen trailing in most projections released so far.

The exit poll projections, if they hold on February 8 when the Election Commission of India declares the results, would mark a comeback for the BJP after a gap of over 25 years. The exit poll predictions also signal a huge vindication of the BJP's "anti-corruption" campaign against the AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal.

The exit poll results also show that the BJP has managed to carry forward the momentum following the victories it registered in Haryana and Maharashtra after a forgettable outing in the general elections.

Mirroring the politics of the Hindi heartland, the BJP's victory in the national capital will be crucial for the BJP, especially for the optics -- Delhi being the capital and the BJP in power at the Centre for a decade -- and the influence it could have in other heartland states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and even poll-bound Bihar.

Having impressed the middle-class with the income tax relief announced in the Budget, the Delhi exit poll result also suggests a vindication for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Moreover, the BJP also appears to have turned the tide in terms of the support of women voters who constitute around 45 percent of the Delhi electorate. Women voters were largely responsible for the AAP's runaway victories in 2015 and 2020.
