A Delhi Police constable was killed in a tragic hit-and-run incident in the Nangloi area of the capital after a speeding car struck him during his patrol. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, and the victim has been identified as Sandeep, who was attached to the Nangloi Police Station.

The 30-year-old constable, who was in plain clothes at the time, was out on patrol as part of an investigation into a rise in robbery cases in the area. Sandeep was riding his motorcycle when he noticed a WagonR being driven recklessly and attempted to signal the driver to slow down. However, instead of complying, the driver accelerated, hitting the constable from behind.

According to a report by NDTV, the impact of the collision caused Sandeep and his motorcycle to be dragged for about 10 metres before he was thrown to the ground. He sustained severe head injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to another hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

CCTV footage from the area captured the horrifying incident, showing Sandeep gesturing to the driver to reduce speed before being struck by the car. According to police, the WagonR had two occupants who abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The car has since been seized, and a murder case has been registered. Authorities are actively searching for the suspects.

Senior police officer Jimmy Chiram, addressing the media, said, "Sandeep was on routine patrol duty when a WagonR attempted to overtake him at high speed. A verbal exchange may have occurred before the vehicle struck him from behind, dragging him for several metres. He sustained critical head injuries as a result." He added that the case appears to be one of road rage.

Sources suggested NDTV that one of the occupants of the car may be involved in the illegal liquor trade, though this has not been officially confirmed by the police.

Sandeep is survived by his mother, wife, and five-year-old son.
