  • Digvijaya Singh praised BJP-RSS organisational strength in a social media post
  • Singh shared a photo sourced from Quora and described it as powerful
  • He used it to underline how workers in Sangh-BJP ecosystem can rise from grassroots to highest offices of power.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh sparked a controversy and drew attention within his own party with a social media post in which he praised the organisational strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Following the row, Singh said he is a "staunch opponent of the BJP and the RSS," and that he "praised the party organisation."

When asked if he sought the revival of the organisation during the Congress Working Committee meeting held in Delhi, party Singh told news agency PTI, “In fact, I praised the party organisation. You people have misunderstood things. I am a staunch opponent of the BJP and the RSS.”

Singh earlier shared and praised a throwback image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the organisational strength of the BJP and the RSS that sparked a row.

He posted a screenshot sourced from Quora showing veteran BJP leader LK Advani attending an event in Gujarat. In the image, a much younger Narendra Modi can be seen seated on the floor near Advani.

Singh described the photograph as powerful and used it to underline how workers in the Sangh-BJP ecosystem can rise from the grassroots to the highest offices of power.

"I found this picture on the Quora site. It is very impactful. In the way the grassroots swayamsevaks (workers) of RSS and the workers of Jan Sangh @BJP4India sit on the floor at the feet of leaders and become the Chief Minister of the state and the Prime Minister of the country. This is the power of the organization. Jai Siya Ram," Singh wrote in Hindi on X.

The post stood out as the Congress has frequently targeted the BJP and the RSS over a range of political and ideological issues. Singh’s remarks, however, appeared to acknowledge the organisational discipline and internal growth structure of the Sangh and its political wing.

Adding to the significance of the post, Singh tagged official Congress social media handles along with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. This move has been interpreted by many as a pointed message directed at the Congress leadership, potentially inviting debate within the party ranks.

The BJP took a swipe at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over Singh’s tweet, with party spokesperson CR Kesavan claiming that the remark had laid bare the Congress leadership’s “autocratic and undemocratic” nature.

"Will Rahul Gandhi show courage and react to the shocking Truth Bomb dropped by Shri. Digvijaya Singh's tweet which has totally exposed how Congress first family ruthlessly runs the party in a dictatorial manner and also how autocratic and undemocratic this Congress leadership is?" he wrote in a post on X.

Earlier in December 19, Singh wrote a post asking Gandhi to look within the party advising that it needs 'more pragmatic decentralised functioning'.

"@RahulGandhi ji you are absolutely “Bang On” in matters of Socio-Economic Issues. Full Marks.

But now please look at @INCIndia also. Like @ECISVEEP needs Reforms, So Does Indian National Congress. You have started with “संघटन सृजन” But we need more Pragmatic Decentralised Functioning. I am sure you would do it because I know you can do it. Only problem is that it is not easy to “Convince” you!! Jai Siya Ram," he wrote.

A former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh is known for his outspoken views and has often found himself at the centre of controversies. His latest comments have once again placed him in the spotlight.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the AICC headquarters in Delhi on Saturday, attended by senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, KC Venugopal, several chief ministers, and MPs.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah joined the meeting amid speculation over a leadership change in the state, while Deputy CM DK Shivakumar was not invited. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was present despite recent absences and differences with the party.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan criticised the Congress, questioning whether the CWC would hold Rahul Gandhi accountable for the party’s poor performance in the Bihar elections.
