A tragic road accident in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district has sparked outrage after locals were seen displaying shocking apathy at the site of a child’s death. The incident took place near Jhajhihat village under the jurisdiction of the Pupri police station, NDTV reported.

Ritesh Kumar, a Class 7 student popularly known as Golu, was on his way to attend his morning coaching class when a speeding pickup truck hit him. The impact proved fatal, killing the child on the spot. Ritesh was the son of Santosh Das. Residents nearby were alerted by loud cries following the collision, and the boy’s family reached the spot soon after, only to find him lifeless.

Even as the child’s parents and relatives broke down in grief, the situation at the accident site took a disturbing turn. The pickup truck involved in the crash was carrying a consignment of fish, which spilled onto the road after the impact.

Instead of helping the injured child, informing authorities, or arranging medical assistance, several people who had gathered began collecting the scattered fish. Eyewitnesses said individuals were seen stuffing fish into bags and fleeing the spot, while the body of the deceased child lay nearby.

Police from the Pupri police station reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. The crowd was dispersed, and the child’s body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorities have seized the pickup truck involved in the accident and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.
