A 14-year-old Class 10 student from Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district is recovering in hospital after allegedly attempting suicide, following what her family claims was harassment by her school principal and vice-principal, NDTV reported.

The incident occurred on November 14 at a private hostel but came to light only recently.

The student, identified as Blessy from Burugupudi village in Kirlampudi mandal, allegedly faced sustained humiliation and pressure for two days. Her parents said she was unable to cope, and in fear, jumped from the hostel building.

Some students have reportedly remained unsure of the sequence of events, saying they have “no clarity” on what happened. Meanwhile, parents have alleged that staff were “forcing students to say she slipped from the stairs.”

Blessy suffered multiple injuries, including fractures in both legs, head trauma, and spinal cord damage. She is currently undergoing treatment at Kakinada Government Hospital.

Her parents, Tapa Mohan Rao and Komali, have submitted a written complaint to the Kakinada District Collector, seeking strict action against the senior school staff.

Acting on the complaint, Jagampeta Tahsildar Xavier Ramesh and Jagampeta Circle Inspector Y R K Srinivas visited the premises, questioned school staff, and collected evidence.

Police said a formal inquiry has been initiated and further action will follow based on the investigation.

The case comes against the backdrop of a recent case where, after bullying and mocking by teachers in school, a student died by suicide by jumping from an elevated platform near the Rajendra Place Metro Station in Delhi.

The victim's father said that his teacher had mocked him and told him to "cry as much as he wants" after a slip-up during a dance practice. This reportedly happened hours before the student tragically took the extreme step. His father said that owing to the complaints of his son, he and the mother had decided to change his chool in a couple of days.
