KK Mishra, father of Shivam Mishra, the accused in the Lamborghini accident case, on Tuesday, denied police claims that his son was driving the car at the time of the incident, saying the matter was still under investigation.
Speaking to reporters in Kanpur, Mishra said that Shivam was accompanied by a driver when the accident occurred. "A driver and Shivam were in the car. I don’t know who was driving the vehicle. It will be investigated," he said.
Mishra claimed the luxury car had developed a technical issue a day before the accident, which was addressed by mechanics. According to him, the car was taken out the next day for a test drive. "After the repair, Shivam and the driver took the car for testing," he claimed.
Describing the sequence of events, Mishra said that while returning from the Civil Lines area, Shivam began to lose consciousness. "Shivam started becoming unconscious and fell asleep. When the driver removed one hand from the steering wheel to check on him, the car slowed down and an autorickshaw hit the vehicle," he alleged.
He further claimed that the car doors were automatically locked after the collision, preventing the driver from opening the window. "Our security staff then broke the glass, opened the gate and pulled Shivam out of the car," Mishra said.
According to Mishra, Shivam was examined by a doctor after being brought home and was later shifted to Delhi for further treatment. "He is still undergoing treatment in Delhi and is not in a condition to return to Kanpur at present. Doctors have said he should be better in the next two to three days," he added.
Rejecting the police version, Mishra said, "The Police Commissioner is wrong if he says that Shivam was driving the car." He also denied allegations of intoxication, asserting, "No one in our family consumes alcohol or any other substance."
KK Mishra owns Banshidhar Exports Pvt. Ltd., a firm that supplies tobacco to gutkha manufacturers in the region.
The accident occurred around 3.15 pm on February 8 near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car allegedly ploughed into pedestrians and vehicles standing along the roadside, triggering panic in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the Lamborghini first rammed into an autorickshaw before crashing into a stationary motorcycle, flinging its rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The car mounted the motorcycle’s front wheel, dragged it for some distance and finally came to a halt after hitting an electric pole.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava, on Sunday, had told reporters that the car was “allegedly driven by Shivam Mishra, son of businessman K K Mishra,” when it went out of control.
Following the crash, angry locals gathered at the spot and surrounded the car, forcing the driver to remain inside. Witnesses alleged that private security personnel accompanying the accused attempted to push back the crowd and behaved aggressively, escalating tensions.
Police later reached the spot, rescued the driver and shifted him along with the injured to a private hospital. The damaged Lamborghini was seized and taken to the police station.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on its findings.
