Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday welcomed the emphatic performance of the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance in the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the NDA’s development-oriented politics under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on X, Shah said the verdict reflected people’s confidence in governance focused on welfare and growth, and thanked voters across the state for their backing.

“The resounding victory of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections clearly shows that the people across every corner of the country have complete faith only in the development policies of the NDA led by PM Shri @narendramodi ji,” Shah wrote.

Calling it a “historic success,” he said the mandate amounted to public approval of the work carried out by the Mahayuti government. He also congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP state president Ravindra Chavan and party workers for the result.

The strong showing of the ruling alliance was echoed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who said the municipal polls were fought with a clear focus on development. “We faced these elections with a vision of development under the leadership of PM Modi… That is why we got a record-breaking mandate in these elections,” he said, adding, “These results have clarified that Maharashtra relies a lot on PM Modi.”

Thanking voters, Fadnavis said the outcome marked an unprecedented moment for the alliance in urban local bodies. “First of all, I want to thank the citizens of Maharashtra for giving a grand victory to the BJP in the municipal elections. BJP and Mahayuti are going to form their 25 mayors after these elections,” he said.

Addressing party workers in Mumbai, he noted that the alliance had secured victories in 25 of the 29 municipal corporations, saying it had “broken all past records.”

He said the Mahayuti flag would be unfurled at the BMC headquarters to mark the victory. Emphasising inclusive governance, the Chief Minister said the alliance would work for every section of society and pursue development-driven policies, adding that the verdict reflected aspirations for progress, stability and effective administration in Maharashtra’s cities.

In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the BJP-led Mahayuti crossed the majority mark in the 227-member civic body with a combined tally of 120 seats.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 93 seats, while its ally Shiv Sena won 27.

The Shiv Sena (UBT)-led alliance finished with 73 seats, of which 63 came from Shiv Sena (UBT). The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena secured 10 seats, while both factions of the NCP failed to win any.

Following the results, Fadnavis called up several party leaders, including Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam and state BJP chief Ravindra Chavan, to congratulate them.
