After a teacher was shot dead on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Uttar Pradesh, CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced.

According to NDTV, the video revealed that the gunmen kept shooting into Danish Rao's head even after he died.

The footage showed a group suddenly getting scattered after the shots were fired. As Rao lay lifeless, one of the attackers bent down, placed a gun on his head, and kept firing. The NDTV report stated that at least six shots were seen being fired in the footage.

According to police, the incident took place at around 9 pm on Wednesday when the deceased, identified as 45-year-old Rao Danish Ali, a computer science teacher at the university’s ABK High School, was out on his routine evening walk with his friends. Suddenly two unidentified attackers arrived on a two-wheeler and opened fire.

As per media reports, before shooting, one gunman told Danish, “You don’t know me yet, now you will.” Danish was shot at least three times, twice in the head.

He was immediately rushed to JN Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

AMU Proctor Wasim Ali said the university was alerted to a shooting near the library and that the injured teacher was immediately rushed for treatment.

“Around 9 pm, we received information that there had been a shooting near the library and that a man had been injured and was being taken for medical treatment… We learned that the man who had been shot has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, and he was a teacher at the ABK School of the university. He was shot in the head… He died there at the medical college,” he said as quoted by ANI.

Ali was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon told News18 that two unidentified men were involved in the shooting. Police have formed six investigation teams and are scanning CCTV footage from the campus and surrounding areas to identify and track down the assailants. The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
