The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday said that 95.92% of voters in Bihar have been covered under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls and efforts are underway to reach out to each voter left-out in the remaining six days.
The poll body said that BLOs/BLAs appointed by Political parties trying to locate such electors.
The revision exercise, which began following the Commission’s June 24 order, aims to ensure an accurate and updated voter list ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
According to the ECI, forms have been received from 90.12% of the state’s total 7.89 crore electors. Of the remainder, 4.67% voters were not found at their registered addresses, 1.61% are likely deceased, 0.75% appear to be enrolled in multiple locations, and 2.3% are believed to have permanently shifted. Another 0.01% are untraceable.
The Commission has announced that the draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, and a full month will be provided for public feedback and corrections. Political parties and voters will be able to raise objections or request inclusions and rectifications.
To assist with this process, lists of voters deemed deceased, shifted, or duplicated are being shared with district party presidents and 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs). These agents are authorised to verify and certify up to 50 forms each day until July 25.
As with the draft roll, political parties will receive both print and digital versions of the final list at no cost, and it will be made publicly available online.
