Coronavirus daily update: COVID-19 cases explained in charts
India reported over 31,000 COVID-19 new cases according to the official update, on December 10. Active cases in India continue to slide further below the 4 lakh mark, with a fall of over 6,600 cases in a day. Recoveries above 92 lakh with a recovery rate of 94.7 percent.

As many as 31,521 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported, with India’s total COVID-19 cases above 97 lakh, as per health ministry’s December 10 update.India reported 412 new deaths (below the 500 mark for the fifth day) and 37,725 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the latest release shows. Active cases continue to drop, to 3,72,293 with a fall of 6,616 cases in a day. Maharashtra reported the most (4,981) new cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Kerala (4,875), West Bengal (2,956), Delhi (2,463) and Rajasthan (1,511). These top five states account for more than half (53 percent) of all the new cases in India. 
Maharashtra reported the most (75) deaths, followed by Delhi (50), West Bengal (47), Kerala (35) and Haryana (26). These five states account for 57 percent of all the new deaths reported across the country.About 11 states and union territories like Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura did not report any deaths today. Six countries--Belgium (1,508), San Marino (1,443), Peru (1,099), Italy (1,022), Andorra (1,009) and Spain (1,005)--have more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths per million population. While India reports 102 deaths per million population. India’s recovery rate is at 94.7 percent. Dadra Nagar Haveli/Daman & Diu record the highest (99.3 percent) recovery rate, while Himachal Pradesh reports the lowest (82.4 percent). In terms of cases, Maharashtra recorded 5,051 new recoveries, the most, followed by Kerala (4,647), Delhi (4,177), Karnataka (3,128) and West Bengal (3,009). The total COVID-19 cases in India now stand at 97,67,371 with 92,53,306 recoveries and 1,41,772 deaths as on December 10, 2020. The mortality rate in the country stands at 1.5 percent with Punjab reporting the highest (3.2 percent).

Less than 10 lakh (9,22,959) daily tests were reported on December 9 with more than 15.07 crore tests (1.09 lakh tests per million population) carried out till date. India ranks third in the number of tests carried out, after the USA and China.
