The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'double standard' on two equally important issues of the 'atrocities' in Gaza and the plight of minorities in Bangladesh.
In a tweet post, the BJP pictorially described Gandhi as welcoming the victims of Gaza violence, whereas being non-receptive towards the minorities in Bangladesh.
The tweet comes days after BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party of neglecting the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh. Thakur's remarks came in response to the Congress party's congratulatory tweets directed at the newly formed interim government in Bangladesh, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
“What is their reluctance to address the issue of Hindu minorities?” Thakur questioned. “They speak out on violence in Gaza, yet remain silent on the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.” Thakur noted that, despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his congratulatory message to Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, emphasised the need to ensure the safety of minorities.
BJP spokesperson C R Kesavan accused the Congress of hypocrisy in a post on X. He stated, “Blatant hypocrisy of the Crooked Congress. On issues like Gaza, long prompt social media posts were put out by the Congress to draw attention to the issues people faced there. PM @narendramodi ji urged Mohammad Yunus to ensure the safety of Hindus and all other minorities, when congratulating him. However, there has been deafening hypocritical radio silence from the Congress on the safety and welfare of Hindus and other minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh".
