Banks can increase infrastructure lending capacity: CRISIL

CRISIL Ratings has come out with its report on infrastructure lending. According to the rating agency Indian banking system can increase their funding capacity to the infrastructure sector by Rs.1 trillion over the next four years and it can be done by refinancing of infrastructure project loans through debt capital markets.

CRISIL Ratings has come out with its report on infrastructure lending. According to the rating agency Indian banking system can increase their funding capacity to the infrastructure sector by Rs 1 trillion over the next four years and it can be done by refinancing of infrastructure project loans through debt capital markets.

CRISIL believes that capital markets can play a greater role in addressing the increasing asset-liability mismatch (ALM), one of the emerging risks being faced by Indian banks today. As per a recent CRISIL study, Indian banking system can increase their funding capacity to the infrastructure sector by Rs 1 trillion over the next four years, without impacting their asset-liability profiles. This can be done by refinancing of infrastructure project loans through debt capital markets. This amount constitutes nearly 20 per cent of the banking system
