State Bank of India (SBI) has updated the charges applicable to ATM and Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machine (ADWM) transactions, increasing the fees customers pay for using ATMs of other banks beyond the free usage limit. The revised charges came into effect on December 1, 2025, marking the first increase in such fees since February 2025.
Under the new structure, SBI customers will be charged Rs 23 plus GST for every cash withdrawal made at a non-SBI ATM after exhausting the free transactions. This is higher than the earlier fee of Rs 21 plus GST. Charges for non-financial transactions - such as balance enquiries and mini statements - have also been raised to Rs 11 plus GST, from Rs 10 plus GST earlier.
SBI said the revision follows an increase in interchange fees, which prompted a review of pricing for ATM-related services.
The revised charges mainly impact savings and salary account holders who exceed the permitted number of free transactions at non-SBI ATMs. Other account categories and certain transaction types remain unaffected.
The bank has not altered the number of free monthly transactions available to regular savings account holders. Customers can continue to make five free transactions per month at other banks' ATMs, covering both financial and non-financial transactions, across all locations. The new charges apply once this limit is exceeded.
For salary package savings bank account holders, SBI has capped the number of free ATM transactions at 10 per month at other banks' ATMs nationwide. Earlier, salary account customers were allowed unlimited free usage. After the free limit is exhausted, charges of Rs 23 plus GST for cash withdrawals and Rs 11 plus GST for non-financial transactions will apply.
SBI has clarified that several customer segments are not affected by the latest changes. Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts will continue under the existing charge structure. Transactions carried out using SBI debit cards at SBI ATMs remain free. Cardless cash withdrawals at SBI ATMs will continue to be unlimited and free of charge, while Kisan Credit Card (KCC) accounts are also excluded from the revised fee structure.
