The Karnataka Stamps and Registration Department collected Rs 311 crore in revenue on September 27, after registering more than 26,058 documents, the highest ever till now, according to Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
“It is a new record in the history of the Stamps and Registration Department for a single day, and the number keeps on increasing,” the minister said.
On September 25, the department collected Rs 158.2 crore, registering 15,936 documents and on September 22, the department registered about 12,955 documents to rake in Rs 130.8 crore in revenue.
This comes after the state government announced on September 19 that the guidance value for property may go up by 20-30 percent from October 1. The guidance value may even go up by as much as 50 percent in dense IT corridors, the minister had said.
Officials from the department said the newly introduced tech-based Kaveri2 software — designed to simplify the property registration process — played a major role in the record number of registrations.
“In 256 sub-registration offices across the state, the registration and documentation work has been done on a full scale from June 25 with the help of the new software. It has helped to maximise efficiency, speeding up the process of registration over a single day,” the official added.
Previously, many homebuyers had complained of technical glitches in the software, including a lack of integration with the Bengaluru Development Authority.
On September 22, Gowda announced that the sub-registrar offices in Karnataka would operate from 8 am to 8 pm till September 30 to meet the increase in demand for registration.
