MBBS students in foreign varsities without eligibility certificates granted 3-day application window

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given a three-day time to students, who proceeded abroad to pursue MBBS without obtaining an eligibility certificate. The candidates need to submit deficiency or applications on the NMC portal.

Earlier in December 2023, NMC informed that 972 students had proceeded abroad to pursue MBBS without obtaining an eligibility certificate and gave 10 days to all such students to submit their applications in the eligibility portal of NMC.

Now, it noted that 1,060 such students are studying medicine abroad without the mandatory certificate. In case any such candidate obtains qualification without obtaining an eligibility certificate, he/she shall not be eligible to appear in the screening test.

The NMC notice said the requirement of taking the certificate before proceeding abroad has been dispensed with effect from the declaration of the result of NEET-UG 2019 vide public notice dated April 5, 2019, and accordingly after June 5, 2019, the qualifying NEET-UG Exam has been made mandatory and shall be deemed to be treated as an eligibility certificate for Indian/OCI citizen intending to take admission in MBBS or equivalent medical course in any foreign medical institution.

“It is observed that applicants whose name is mentioned in Annexure-I have proceeded abroad without obtaining an Eligibility Certificate. Therefore, it has been decided by the Board to give 3 days to all such applicants (Annexure-I) to submit their deficiencies through the eligibility portal of NMC. In case, the applicants whose name is mentioned in Annexure-I do not fulfil the deficiency or do not submit the applications within 3 days from the date of publication of this notice the applications will be summarily rejected,” the NMC notice said.
