Elon Musk postponed his visit to India, which included a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing "very heavy" obligations at Tesla Inc. He, however, expressed his intention to visit India later this year.
He posted on X:
Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 20, 2024
The decision to postpone the India trip follows a turbulent week for the electric vehicle maker, marked by Musk's announcement of job cuts of more than 10% of its global workforce and the exit of top executives. On April 17, Tesla said it intends to resubmit its $56 billion compensation plan for Musk after a Delaware court nullified the package earlier this year.
On April 19, Tesla recalled 3,900 Cybertrucks to fix accelerator pedal issues that could lead to unintended acceleration, alongside slashing prices by $2,000 on its popular Model Y, Model X, and Model S in the US, following sluggish first-quarter sales and high inventory levels.
Musk's Visit
CNBC-TV18 first reported that Musk had delayed his trip to India.
Musk was scheduled to meet PM Modi on April 22 in the first half and startup founders at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi later in the day, the report said.
Musk's meeting with the space tech startups has been cancelled, and multiple people independently confirmed.
Space tech startup executives were told about the development early April 20, they said, declining to be named. Startups have been told to expect an official communication in this regard later in the day.
At the Bharat Mandapam meeting, Musk was expected to visit stalls and speak to top space tech executives to learn more about their innovations and offerings.
Additionally, these startups were expected to showcase their technologies to the SpaceX chief. Startups, including Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Piersight, Digantara, Satsure (and its subsidiary KaleidEO), and GalaxEye, were scheduled to meet with Musk in New Delhi.
