NTPC's provisional net profit seen up 21% in Jan-March qtr

India's largest power generation company NTPC is set to announce its provisional numbers for the fourth quarter (Jan-Mar) soon. The company is likely to report 21% growth in its net profit of Rs 2,433 crore as against Rs 2,018 crore in same quarter the previous year.

    India's largest power generation company NTPC is set to announce its provisional numbers for the fourth quarter (Jan-Mar) soon. The company is likely to report 21% growth in its net profit of Rs 2,433 crore as against Rs 2,018 crore in same quarter the previous year.


    Net sales for the quarter are expected to go up by 19% to Rs 14,664 crore from Rs 12,353 crore on year-on-year basis.


    Earning before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) is seen going up by 25% at Rs 3,791 crore from Rs 3,044 crore. Operating profit margin too is seen improving at 26% versus 25%.


    For the financial year 2010-11, NTPC is likely to post 17% growth in sales at Rs 54,019 crore as against Rs 46,323 crore in previous financial year.


    But profit after tax is likely to increase by just 0.29% to Rs 8,754 crore versus Rs 8,728 crore.


    EBITDA is seen going up by 7% at Rs 15,308 crore from Rs 14,319 crore. However, OPM is seen declining at 28% versus 31%.


    Company is expected to report strong YoY revenue growth on the back of capacity additions. However the growth might not be reflected in the margins as a result of higher interest and depreciation costs due to capacity additions.


    NTPC has installed capacity of 34,194 MW, mainly generated from coal and gas, as per company's website.


    Corporate developments during Q4


    NTPC entered into a JV with NPCIL during the fourth quarter for developing nuclear power projects. NPCIL holds 51% in the JV while NTPC holds the remaining 49%.


    Unit-I of 500 MW Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar, Haryana was declared commercial. The project is a JV between NTPC, Haryana Power Generation Corp, Govt of Haryana and Indraprastha Power Generation.

    Company completed the synchronization of Unit-I of the Sipat Super Thermal Power Station. It also completed the synchronization of Unit-VI of the 500MW Farakka Super Thermal Power Station in West Bengal.
