Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy on January 22 said his strength is Hyderabad, which the neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh does not have.

Speaking to Moneycontrol on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Reddy said: "Andhra Pradesh doesn't have Hyderabad. I have Hyderabad. My strength lies in Hyderabad and its world-class educational institutions. No Indian city—be it Amaravati, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, or Kolkata—can compete with Hyderabad. Hyderabad is Hyderabad."

He said that Telangana isn’t focused on competing with neighbouring states but on benchmarking itself against global cities like New York, Tokyo, and Singapore.

"I don’t view my neighbouring states as competitors because I aim higher—to compete with cities like New York, Tokyo, or Singapore. My strategy is to attract investments from multinational companies by leveraging our strengths in green energy, artificial intelligence, and defence industries," he said.

Reddy also highlighted Hyderabad’s appeal as a safe and strategic destination for investments. "Telangana means business. Anyone looking to invest in India should consider Hyderabad because of its skilled workforce, robust educational infrastructure, central location, and excellent international connectivity. Our focus areas include green energy, semiconductors, defence, and pharmaceuticals, which are poised to attract significant investments."

He said that Hyderabad's established pharmaceutical ecosystem plays a pivotal role in supporting the region's economic growth.

On the issue of welfare expenditures and debt, Reddy admitted that Telangana faces challenges but remains committed to restructuring its finances. "Yes, there are challenges, but I’m working hard to restructure our debts. This is why attracting investments is crucial to bolstering our economy," he explained.
