About 59 percent of enterprise-scale organisations with over 1,000 employees in India have actively deployed artificial intelligence (AI) in their businesses, a research by tech giant IBM has revealed.
About 74 percent of these Indian enterprises have accelerated their investments in AI in the past 24 months in areas like research and development and workforce reskilling.
The report comes at a time when challenges for AI adoption, including hiring employees with the right skillsets and ethical concerns, remain.
The report said addressing inhibitions emanating from from AI-led changes would be a priority for businesses in 2024. For example, providing people with the relevant skills to work with AI and having a robust AI governance framework.
The survey found that around six in 10 of information technology (IT) professionals at enterprises report that their company is actively implementing generative AI, and another 34 percent are exploring it.
The top factors driving the adoption are advances in AI tools, the need to reduce costs and automate key processes and the increasing amount of AI embedded into standard off-the-shelf business applications.
The companies which used the technology to address labour or skill shortages said they are tapping AI to do things like reduce manual or repetitive tasks with automation tools and automating customer self-service answers and actions.
Around 46 percent are currently training or reskilling employees to work together with new automation and AI tools, the report said.
