To celebrate 25 years of Lakmé Fashion Week, designer Manish Malhotra recreated Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic sling look. On Wednesday, he shared a throwback video of the ramp moment, which he described as “unforgettable.”
In the clip from 2009, SRK is seen walking the runway in an all-black suit with gold detailing. At the time, the actor was recovering from shoulder surgery and was reportedly advised to stop wearing the sling. However, after seeing Manish’s custom black and gold version, he chose to wear it for the show.
The stylish sling—and the entire collection—was designed to align with the black and gold theme of Shah Rukh’s IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
More than a decade later, Manish brought the moment back to life with model Robbie J Mairh. Sharing the video, the designer wrote, “I wanted to recreate Shah Rukh Khan’s first-ever walk at Fashion Week, in that unforgettable black and gold sling… It was 2009, and it marked the first time an IPL team (@kkriders) had ever walked the runway in collaboration with a fashion brand… An iconic moment.”
Robbie responded, “Years ago, a legend named SRK walked the ramp, stitching magic into the very fabric he wore. And today, Manish Malhotra… my friend, let a mere mortal like me slip into those very threads, still humming with stardust.”
He added, “@Manish, you don’t just design outfits—you stitch stardom into every thread. Thank you for making me feel like I borrowed a slice of the moon.”
It was truly a special moment in fashion history. Through the throwback video, Manish celebrated 25 years of Lakmé Fashion Week and recalled the time SRK turned a simple sling into a style statement.
