Did you know Leonardo DiCaprio has a connection to India? In a recent interview with Time magazine, the Hollywood star spoke about his family revealing that his stepmother is a Sikh.

Speaking about his upbringing, DiCaprio said, “My stepmother is a Sikh. My father is from the sort of hippie counterculture, grew up in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He hung out with a lot of the underground art movement in Los Angeles of the ’70s.”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s stepmother, Peggy DiCaprio, is an Amritdhari Sikh. She wears a turban and is often seen dressed in traditional Indian attire. According to reports, Peggy embraced Sikhism several years ago, although she began wearing a turban only in recent years. She married Leonardo’s father, George DiCaprio, in 1995. The couple also have a son together, Adam Ferrar, making him Leonardo’s stepbrother. George DiCaprio was previously married to Leonardo’s mother, Irmelin Indenbirken; the two separated when the actor was just a year old.

Fans react to the revelation

The revelation sparked warm reactions online, especially from Indian fans. One comment read, “This just made me love him more! He was obviously raised by some good people.” Another wrote, “Leonardo DiCaprio’s stepmom being a Sikh is a random fact I love.”

A Sikh fan commented, “I’m a Sikh — no turban for me though 😂 — and it’s wild that one of the most famous actors on the planet is connected to a religion that isn’t as widely followed as others.” Another long-time admirer shared, “I’ve followed Leo since What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and have never heard him talk about his family. This is beautiful.”

A funny moment with Brad Pitt

DiCaprio also recalled a light-hearted moment involving his father and stepmother during the filming of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He said his dad once visited the set with Peggy, but co-star Brad Pitt refused to believe they were his parents.

“I remember when we were turning a corner out of Musso & Frank’s into Hollywood Boulevard,” DiCaprio said. “I told Brad, ‘That’s my dad and my stepmom there,’ and he goes, ‘Yeah, right!’ I said, ‘No, that’s really them!’ He said, ‘Yeah, right!’ I told him, ‘I know they look like extras in this movie, but that’s actually how they dress every day.’ It was an amazing moment.”
