"The dating scene in today's world is just not it", complains Priya, a 25-year-old from Delhi. This casual frustration of every person around the globe goes beyond their age, gender or location— people everywhere have grown wary of the swipe culture. In a world full of options at your fingertips, finding true love feels just like being stuck on the 99th square of snakes and ladders-tantalisingly close, yet frustratingly out of reach.
No amount of Tinder, Hinge, Bumble or even Shaadi.com can guarantee that the next person you meet will be the one you spend your life with. And with some users misusing these platforms, those seeking serious relationships often feel even more hopeless. This is why “dating to marry” has emerged as a common approach among earnest seekers.

How Knot.Dating Works

Tapping into just that, an Indian startup, Knot.Dating is using artificial intelligence to help people find love with intent. The app describes itself as something “between Tinder and Shaadi.com,” combining the openness of dating apps with the intent of matrimonial platforms. It's an AI-powered matrimonial platform that has achieved operational profitability within just six months of its launch — a rare feat in India’s consumer internet space.

Founded by Jasveer Singh, the app uses artificial intelligence to suggest compatible matches based on personality traits, interests, and behaviour patterns. Instead of focusing only on traditional filters like age, caste, or community, the app’s algorithm studies how users interact, communicate, and express preferences — aiming to create smarter, more meaningful matches.

What’s caught attention, though, is its user base. Women make up 70% of Knot.Dating’s users, and 60% of paid subscribers — a rare trend in the dating app world where men usually dominate. The company says this is the result of prioritising safety, authenticity, and clear intent — creating an environment where users feel comfortable engaging seriously.

Bold Filters for Serious Relationships

The app has also introduced a bold filter- only men earning Rs 50 lakh per annum or more can join, while there is no such criteria for women. According to the founders, this feature ensures the platform remains serious and remains open only for those who are interested in long-term commitment.

Unlike other dating sites, Knot.Dating replaces the lengthy forms required to fill to register as user with a simple conversation with an AI. The goal is simple- to simply talk and match people's emotional compatibility.

The Internet Reacts

The bizarre new approach to dating has brought this app a lot of criticism. Some users called it 'Tinder for gold diggers', while others joked that it is an app made for alimony. While some people questioned the income filter, many have found the approach refreshingly honest in a world full of swipe fatigue and fake profiles.

Either way, this app has highlighted a growing trend of intentional dating and guided matchmaking among the youth. It offers a guided tool to navigate the complexities of modern love and for many it shows a powerful shit in how the young India approaches serious relationships.
