Deepika Padukone loves phuchkas from this 120-year-old stall in Kolkata, its aloo dum variant is quite famous

When it comes to street food, one item that is by far the most popular and everyone's favourite in gol gappe, also referred to as phuchka. When actor Deepika Padukone came on Kapil Sharma show, she revealed details about her favourite puchka stall. Well, it is a popular stall called Durga Pandit Phuchka Stall in South Kolkata's Vivekananda Park.

The stall has been running for the past 120 years now. This fact alone speaks volumes of the quality of puchkas being served there. The stall is actually quite a popular one, drawing a lot of tourists and food bloggers for its inventive offerings like aloo dum phuchka. So, when Deepika mentioned that it is her favourite stall, for people who have been there and tasted yummy offerings, it was a moment of validation.

The stall is now run by Shankar Pandit and it is his late wife Durga Pandit after whose name the stall's name was kept. Incidentally, Durga's father Thakur Pandit was also a known phuchka seller who had put up the stall initially near Dhakuria lake. Eventually, Durga took charge and she changed the location of the stall. She was the one who enhanced the flavor of the phuchkas  and thanks to all her efforts, success followed. After Durga's untimely and tragic death in 2014, her husband Shankar took over and since then he has been running the stall.

If you're planning to visit this stall, then you can taste a variety of phuchkas served there. From classic phuchkas, aloo dum phuchka to yogurt-filled dahi phuchka, there are quite a few options to pick from. Kolkata has always been a city famous for street food. So, Durga Pandit Phuchka stall must be doing something right to stay on the radar for so many years at a stretch.
