He is just 10, and Max Alexander is already a name to reckon with in the fashion world. He was just 4-year-old when he first declared that he was going to be a dressmaker. Born in California, Max's first muse was his sister. He would make all clothes for her and when she would wear them, it would make Max very happy.
Max is in the news again, as on March 3, he is all set to present his collection at the coveted Paris Fashion Week. Now a lot of fashion designers first sketch their creations, but Max has a different approach to it. He loves to drape the fabric. "I love draping. It's like sculpting," he says. Max holds a Guinness record for being the youngest designer to showcase his creations on a runway. He has his own label called Couture To The Max.
Another commendable thing about the young lad is that he also believes in sustainable fashion. When he was just 8 years old, he had addressed the United Nations and talked about sustainability in fashion. "There are a lot of beautiful fabrics and clothes that could be made into something new. If you make it well, it will last a long time," he had said. In fact, at Aspen Fashion Week, his models wore clothes bade from upcycled coffee bean bags, hand-dyed with turmeric, beets and indigo.
If you're wondering from where does Max draw his talent front, well, it seems that the talent for textiles runs in the family. Max Alexander's grandfather Jack had founded more than 40 dress boutiques in 1920s.
On social media, Max is quite a sensation with a boastful count of 5.7 million followers. One can see a lot of behind the scene videos of his work and making of creations on his Instagram account. Celebrities including Sharon Stone, Debra Messing and Willow Shields have also worn his work.
