With changes in season – from summer to monsoon or winter to spring, there are variations in temperature, humidity and quality of air. These environmental shifts can dampen the immune system, induce allergic responses and contribute to greater transmission of viral and bacterial infections in children. Because the immune systems of children are still developing, sudden changes in weather can set the stage for illness.
Aside from infections, the shift in weather may exacerbate asthma, skin issues, dehydration and digestive disruptions. Though not all risks can be removed altogether, diligent care is able to lessen the risk of falling ill.
Dr Ashwini Kumar, Consultant Pediatrician at Felix Global, explains to Moneycontrol that regular preventive measures, adequate nutrition and timely medical advice are crucial for children to make safe adjustments through seasonal changes.
