As the wedding bells grow louder for Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda, who are all set to tie the knot on February 26 at a lavish resort in Udaipur, it feels like a full-circle moment. The celebrations have already begun, with the couple flying from Hyderabad to Rajasthan along with close friends and family. Fans are celebrating the union, but rewind a few years and the narrative around them was far from festive.
There was a time when Rashmika found herself at the centre of intense online trolling after her kissing scene with Vijay in Dear Comrade. The film, which showcased their chemistry in a raw and emotional light, became a talking point for reasons beyond its storyline. Social media erupted, and much of the backlash was directed at Rashmika.
In a throwback interview with Zoom, the actress opened up about how deeply the criticism affected her. “The second it happened, it carried on for months. It was this, that, whatever. And there were so many painful moments happening and painful things I was reading, I was seeing. I have been through that,” she said.

The trolling was not just noise on the internet. It seeped into her mental space. Rashmika revealed she had recurring dreams that reflected her emotional turmoil. “I would have constant dreams where you know you feel like you are the only one and everyone has turned their back on you, and you are calling out for them. That was a constant dream, I don't know what it was, and I don't know how it was. I would wake myself up with such dreams and cry myself to bed, or even wake up crying.”
What made it harder was the isolation. Despite having a supportive family, she struggled to share her pain with them. “That was an extremely hard part that I had to go through. Your family is not used to it so you can't even open up to your family because my parents would never want to see me sad. Conveying something like this would really make them sad,” she admitted.
At the time, relationship rumours between Rashmika and Vijay were also gaining traction. The two had worked together early in their careers and shared a comfortable camaraderie. Addressing the speculation in an earlier interview with Mashable India, Rashmika had clarified, “It's all cute. See Vijay, and I have done so much work together, too early in our career. When we don't know how the industry is, and suddenly you work with like-minded people, you sort of like become friends… It's so cute when the whole world is like Rashmika and Vijay, that's cute.”
From facing harsh criticism over a scene to now preparing for a real-life celebration of love, Rashmika’s journey reflects resilience. What once invited judgement has now turned into admiration, proving that sometimes time changes not just circumstances, but narratives too.
