Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and actor-producer Anushka Sharma have jointly purchased over five acres of land in Alibaug’s Raigad district for a total consideration of Rs 37.86 crore, according to property documents accessed by real estate consultancy firm CRE Matrix.
The transaction was registered on January 13, 2026, and involves two adjoining land parcels located at Village Zirad, Gat Nos. 157 and 158, Alibag, Raigad district (402201). As per the registered sale deed, the combined landholding measures 21,010 square metres, or approximately 5.19 acres.
Commenting on the deal, Abhishek Kiran Gupta, chief executive of CRE Matrix, said, “Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma buying an over 21,000 sq metre land parcel in Alibaug is a textbook ‘celebrity signal’ moment. Deals of this size typically reset local land benchmarks, especially when backed by a Rs 2.27 crore stamp duty outlay, which confirms transaction seriousness.”
This is not the celebrity couple’s first real estate investment in Alibaug. In 2022, Kohli and Sharma acquired nearly eight acres of land through two separate transactions for Rs 19.24 crore from real estate developer Samira Habitats. The couple later built a luxury vacation home on the acquired plots, reinforcing their long-term interest in the coastal destination.
Alibaug has witnessed a surge in high-value residential and land transactions in recent years, driven by increased demand for luxury second homes near Mumbai.
In 2025, Hiranandani Communities launched a 225-acre integrated township project, Hiranandani Sands, in Alibaug, with an estimated revenue potential of Rs 17,000 crore. The project offers premium villas, plotted developments, luxury homes, and branded serviced apartments targeting affluent domestic and global buyers.
The region has also seen several record-breaking deals. In December 2025, a five-bedroom penthouse at Lodha Alibaug was reportedly sold for Rs 33.5 crore. The 9,218 sq ft penthouse, located in the Emperor’s Palace project, was acquired by industrialists R K Behera and S K Behera of the RSB Group, according to a Times of India report.
Other prominent buyers include Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan, who purchased a 2,000 sq ft plot worth around Rs 2 crore at Chateau de Alibaug in September 2025.
Amitabh Bachchan has also invested heavily in the area, buying a 10,000 sq ft land parcel for Rs 10 crore in April 2024, followed by three adjoining plots totalling 9,557 sq ft for Rs 6.6 crore in October 2025. Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan, is also among notable buyers of agricultural land in Alibaug.

As per the documents, Plot 1 (Gat No. 157) measures 14,740 sq metres, while Plot 2 (Gat No. 158) spans 6,270 sq metres. The seller in the transaction is Sonali Amit Rajput, with Samira Land Assets Private Limited listed as the confirming party.
The buyers paid stamp duty of Rs 2,27,16,000, along with a registration fee of Rs 30,000 and document handling charges of Rs 1,000. The payments were made through State Bank of India via GRAS challans and acknowledged by the Joint Sub-Registrar, Alibag.
The Kohli–Sharma acquisition further strengthens Alibaug’s transformation from a weekend getaway into a serious luxury residential market.
