Vijay Deverakonda’s wedding look has sparked a conversation that goes far beyond fashion. While celebrity weddings often set trends, this time it is the groom’s styling that has taken centre stage. Dressed in traditional South Indian attire, Vijay chose to fully embrace ritualistic details that are usually associated with brides, quietly challenging long-held ideas around masculinity in wedding fashion.

One detail, in particular, stood out — the alta on his hands and feet. Alta, the red dye traditionally applied to a bride’s palms and feet, has long been seen as a feminine adornment. On Vijay, however, it did not look performative or forced. Instead, it felt deliberate and rooted. Paired with layered temple jewellery, a sacred thread across his forehead, and a rich red angavastram draped over a classic veshti, the look carried both strength and softness.

For years, groom fashion has leaned towards safe choices — ivory sherwanis, minimal embroidery, restrained styling. The emphasis has often been on subtlety. Vijay’s ensemble broke away from that template. He did not tone down tradition to appear modern. Instead, he amplified it. The jewellery was bold, the colours were vibrant, and the rituals were embraced in full view.

Photographs of him and Rashmika Mandanna laughing, exchanging garlands and sharing intimate moments further added depth to the visual narrative. When Rashmika introduced him as “my husband,” the styling suddenly felt even more symbolic. It reflected partnership, not hierarchy. Participation, not distance. The alta became more than a design element — it became a statement about shared rituals and shared space.

Fashion observers have noted how the look softens the conventional image of masculinity without weakening it. There is confidence in detail. There is strength in tradition. By choosing to participate in customs typically centred around the bride, Vijay subtly questioned why certain aesthetics are gendered at all.
