This week, the kitchen of Laughter Chefs Unlimited Entertainment on COLORS turned into a whirlwind of excitement and nerves when none other than India’s culinary icon Sanjeev Kapoor stepped in to lead the day’s cook-off.

Contestants had walked in expecting the usual energy of Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, complete with his trademark “lekin…”, only to be met with the towering presence of Sanjeev Kapoor. The reactions ranged from shock to disbelief and quickly transformed into pure fan awe.

While everyone was thrilled to have the legendary chef in the studio, a familiar question hung in the air: “Harpal ji kahan hain?” Usually, Chef Harpal lightens the pressure, softening challenges or adjusting judging criteria.

This time, Sanjeev Kapoor kept things simple and direct. “Follow instructions exactly. No shortcuts. No negotiations,” he instructed. The kitchen felt a little more intense, but the humour and camaraderie that define the show were still very much alive.

The first challenge was Bombay Halwa, a deceptively tricky dessert. Contestants had to produce five flawless pieces, soft and bouncy, with a glossy finish, balanced sweetness, and a hint of watermelon flavour. The tiniest mistake could cost them a star.

Even under the pressure, the show’s fun moments shone through. Sudesh Lehri couldn’t hide his excitement at cooking in front of a chef he had admired for years, Krushna Abhishek found moments of humour despite the nerves, and Arjun Bijlani kept the teasing alive. Laughter continued — just with slightly shakier hands.

Next came Bhaap Badi Salan, a bold dish combining Hyderabadi salan and Rajasthani badi. The challenge demanded control, precision, and balance, and the contestants had to merge two distinct culinary traditions into a single dish.

Through it all, Sanjeev Kapoor remained a guiding presence, showing that cooking is both a craft and a joy.

Reflecting on the experience, Sanjeev Kapoor said, “The experience of being on Laughter Chefs turned out even better than I had imagined — everything was truly wonderful. Whether it’s the audience seated here or Bharti, the seriousness and passion with which you all prepare food is highly commendable. Whenever something big happens in the world of food, it genuinely makes me very happy. I honestly don’t think there is any show based on cooking bigger than this in India.”

Laughter Chefs Unlimited Entertainment, co-presented by Nivea Soft and Realme Smartphones, co-powered by Envy Perfumes, Catch Masale, Kissan Chutneys, Vinod Intelligent Cookware and Rajdhani Besan, with special partners Coca Cola and Hiims Ayurveda Hospitals, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 pm on COLORS.
