The Nithiin-starrer family drama Thammudu hit theatres on July 4 and had a decent start at the box office. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 2 crore on its opening day.
Hyderabad led the box office performance with an overall occupancy of 23.25%, boosted by a strong turnout during the morning shows and steady attendance throughout the evening and night.
Remarkably, Chennai had a respectable 19.5% occupancy rate even though it wasn't the movie's primary market. In contrast, Bengaluru recorded a lower percentage of 8.25%, most likely as a result of competition from other regional releases and restricted screen allocation.
Thammudu recorded moderate but steady occupancy throughout the day for Telugu (2D) screenings. Morning shows saw the biggest opening at 22.48%, and afternoon shows saw a minor decline at 20.17%.
The trend continued with evening shows logging 18.10%, and night shows seeing a minor uptick at 18.90%, reflecting a relatively stable audience response across showtimes.
Money Control's review read, "Thammudu sets lofty goals but fails to achieve them. It doesn't emotionally or narratively connect, even with a respectable premise and strong production values. This movie is easy to skip because of its jumbled script, unclear narrative, and lackluster performances."
Featuring Nithiin in the lead alongside Varsha Bollamma, Sapthami Gowda, and Saurabh Sachdev, the film is directed by Sriram Venu and produced by Dil Raju. Though it received mixed reviews from viewers, the upcoming weekend will be a critical period for Thammudu to determine its staying power at the box office.
