Comedian Samay Raina's latest remark land him in another trouble

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a stern warning to comedian and India's Got Latent host Samay Raina for speaking about the case during his trip to Canada.

Justice Surya Kant pointed out that one of the accused referred to Samay Raina in the case, went to Canada, and spoke on the case.

“These youngsters may think that we are outdated but we know how to deal with them. Don’t take the court lightly,” the judge cautioned.

The apex court was hearing the plea by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who was allowed to air his "The Ranveer Show" subject to maintaining "morality and decency" and an undertaking that it was suitable for all ages.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh took note of Allahbadia's submission that the podcast was his only source of livelihood and around 280 people employed by him were dependent on the show.

The bench also extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Allahbadia till further orders, while asking him to join the investigation in Guwahati.

While referring to Samay, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta responded, "Yes, he went abroad and made fun of this proceeding."

Justice Surya Kant warned the Youtubers to “behave” and added, "Possibly, they do not know the jurisdiction which this court enjoys.” He said, “Behave, or else we know how to deal with you.”

Last month, Samay Raina made a humorous comment about the recent controversy while on his Samay Raina Unfiltered tour in Canada. He jokingly told his audience, "Thanks for paying my lawyer's fees."

For the unaware, the controversy started when Ranveer Allahbadia, aka The BeerBiceps Guy, made offensive comments about parents and s*x on Samay’s show India's Got Latent. The remarks sparked widespread outrage, a parliamentary debate, and multiple complaints against Ranveer.

Soon after the backlash, Samay notably removed all the videos from the show and agreed to cooperate with the police.

Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and states like Maharashtra, Assam and Odisha, said the comments made on the contentious YouTube show "India's Got Latent" was not only vulgar but perverse and urged the court not to modify the condition of not airing any show. "Let him remain silent for sometime," he said.

The Centre in the meantime was directed to come up with a draft regulatory mechanism on social media content, which should be put in public domain aside from gathering suggestions from all stakeholders.

Several FIRs were lodged against Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, for his remarks on parents and sex on comic Samay Raina's show "India's Got Latent".

On February 18, the top court granted interim protection from arrest to Allahbadia while calling his comments "vulgar" and saying he had "a dirty mind" which put the society to shame. (With PTI inputs)
