Song Ha Yoon faces $73 million lawsuit over alleged high school bullying: Report

South Korean actress Song Ha Yoon, best known for her role in the 2024 hit drama Marry My Husband, is facing a staggering $73 million lawsuit filed by a former classmate over alleged school bullying. The plaintiff, identified only as “Oh,” currently resides abroad and claims they suffered long-term mental anguish, reputational harm, and other damages due to Ha Yoon’s alleged actions more than two decades ago.

The controversy first erupted in April 2024, when JTBC’s investigative program Crime Chief aired an anonymous testimony accusing Ha Yoon of physically assaulting a peer during her school years. At the time, Ha Yoon’s former agency dismissed the accusations outright, labeling the accuser a “complete stranger” and insisting her school transfer during that period was for unrelated reasons.

Now, the legal dispute has escalated dramatically. Oh has filed a civil lawsuit demanding $73 million in compensation, citing ongoing trauma and defamation. The lawsuit has reignited public debate in South Korea, where allegations of past bullying have repeatedly shaken the entertainment industry, leading to cancellations, blacklisting, and ruined careers for several high-profile stars.

Ha Yoon, however, has strongly denied the claims. Through her representatives, she has filed a criminal complaint for defamation and obstruction of business, submitting what her side says is concrete evidence disproving the allegations.

Her legal team argues that the timing of the accusations—surfacing during the height of her popularity following Marry My Husband—suggests an attempt to exploit her fame.
Fans have rallied behind her, noting the eerie parallel between the accusations and her role as a manipulative villain in Marry My Husband. Many argue that public perception may be unfairly shaped by her on-screen persona rather than facts. Others remain skeptical, pointing to the seriousness of South Korea’s history with celebrity bullying scandals.

As the case unfolds, Ha Yoon’s reputation and career hang in the balance. With millions of dollars at stake and the court of public opinion divided, the outcome could set a precedent for how past allegations against celebrities are handled in the future.
