Actor Kim Mu Jun, often dubbed a “BTS Jin lookalike” by K-pop fans, has spoken about the lessons he learned after being unexpectedly pulled into a high-profile dating scandal earlier this year. In a recent interview, the Dynamite Kiss star reflected on how the controversy reshaped his outlook on life as a public figure and reinforced the importance of caution, ethics, and personal responsibility.
The controversy dates back to April 2025, when Kim Mu Jun’s name surfaced amid a major scandal involving Japanese actress Mei Nagano. At the time, Japanese weekly Shūkan Bunshun reported that Mei Nagano was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair with actor Kei Tanaka, while also being romantically linked to a Korean co-star. The report sparked intense speculation across both Japanese and Korean entertainment circles.
Because Kim Mu Jun was appearing alongside Mei Nagano in the J-drama Caster, which premiered around the same time the scandal broke, online chatter quickly pointed fingers at him as the unnamed “Korean actor” mentioned in the report. The rumour gained traction on social media, fueled by the drama’s popularity and Kim Mu Jun’s growing international recognition.
However, Kim Mu Jun’s agency was quick to shut down the speculation, firmly stating that the two actors were merely “close co-stars” and that there was no truth to the dating rumours. Despite the swift clarification, the actor found himself at the center of unwanted attention.
Looking back on the experience, Kim Mu Jun admitted that it forced him to become more self-aware and mindful of his public image. He shared with Star News, “Every action I take can either harm or benefit me as a public figure. If it benefits me, I’m grateful, but if it causes harm, then I believe it’s truly wrong. That experience made me realize how careful and cautious I need to be about every action and every expression I show. Regardless of what the issue was, it taught me how I should live my life moving forward.”
The actor also emphasised that the incident pushed him to double down on his personal values and lifestyle choices. Stressing the importance of ethical conduct, Kim Mu Jun said, “Of course, you have to follow the law, and I believe you shouldn’t do anything that could be ethically or morally problematic.” He revealed that people close to him often remind him that character comes before fame, adding, “People around me always tell me that ‘becoming a good person comes first.’”
Kim Mu Jun further shared details about his disciplined lifestyle, noting that he actively avoids habits that could invite controversy. He said, “I can’t really drink, I don’t smoke, and I don’t have piercings or tattoos. If I just keep living this way, I don’t think there’ll be anything problematic.”
“I always remind myself to cherish the people around me and take good care of them,” he added, underscoring a resolve to stay grounded despite the pressures of fame.
