On May 29, 2025, a large number of fans and supporters gathered at Moosa village in Punjab’s Mansa district to mark the third death anniversary of popular Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as his family, friends, and admirers paid tribute to the artist whose life was tragically cut short in a brutal shooting.

Sidhu Moosewala was gunned down on May 29, 2022, when he was traveling in his black Thar SUV along with two friends. Armed assailants in two vehicles opened fire near Jawaharke village, killing Moosewala on the spot. The incident shocked the nation and sparked widespread outrage, with fans mourning not just the loss of a musician, but a cultural icon.

This year, the anniversary was observed at his family’s farmhouse in Moosa. His parents, Charan Kaur and Balkaur Singh, shared emotional tributes on social media. Charan Kaur posted a heartfelt message expressing her grief and pain while remembering her son, and also criticized the slow pace of justice in his case. The visuals of her breaking down while holding her grandson moved many online, with reels posted by media houses like India Today going viral.

In a remarkable turn of events, nearly two years after Sidhu’s death, his mother gave birth to a baby boy through IVF on March 17, 2024. The presence of the child at the ceremony served as a symbol of hope for the grieving family.

The Moosewala family also reiterated their disappointment with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, accusing it of delays in delivering justice. They allege that a day before the killing, social media posts claimed his security had been reduced—something they believe made him vulnerable and directly led to the fatal attack.

Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing. On May 1, 2024, charges were officially framed against 27 accused individuals, including gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The trial is currently at the evidence stage, with Sidhu’s father yet to give his witness statement in court.

Three years on, the pain of his absence still lingers deeply among fans and family. Yet, the legacy of Sidhu Moosewala lives on through his music, activism, and the love of those who refuse to forget him.
