Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has become the biggest surprise hit of the year. The film has taken the box office by storm. The musical romantic drama opened to great reviews and a huge audience turnout. Additionally, the film has changed the game for debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda.
Interestingly, Saiyaara wasn’t originally meant to feature Ahaan and Aneet in the lead roles.
According to ScoopWhoop, the film was first offered to real-life couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani. They had previously won fans over with their chemistry in Shershaah, another Dharma Productions project that also sparked their off-screen romance. However, despite early talks, negotiations fell through, allowing for a casting change.
Director Mohit Suri recently discussed the casting decision in an interview. While he initially considered established stars, Aditya Chopra ultimately changed the direction of the project.
Mohit stated that Aditya told him that the film will not work unless the leads feel young and raw, as it’s a young love story. He suggested him to take a chance. However, when Mohit asked who would back such a risky cast, Aditya assured him that he will.
Mohit has previously worked with Sidharth Malhotra, having directed him in the 2014 hit Ek Villain. He is also known for sticking with familiar names, often collaborating with Emraan Hashmi, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Shraddha Kapoor.
Meanwhile, Saiyaara is making waves at the box office and has crossed the Rs 250 crore net mark in just 11 days and shows no signs of slowing down. The modern love story has received an outstanding response and is expected to hit Rs 300 crore by the end of this week.
