Varanasi, the next movie that SS Rajamouli will direct, is shaping up to be one of the biggest projects ever in Indian cinema. The movie has a clear global vision and features a strong cast, including Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu and internationally known actress Priyanka Chopra as the female lead.
Since the announcement, there has been a lot of interest in this project. The first look left fans and industry experts in awe of how big and promising it is. Priyanka Chopra recently made a big announcement about the movie on The Kapil Sharma Show Season 4, even though many details have been kept secret.
We have earlier mentioned in an article that Rajamouli has not really planned the budget for this film yet, as the plans Lee getting bigger and bigger. The actor confirmed that Varanasi is being made on a staggering budget of ₹1,300 crore, making it the most expensive film in Tollywood history and the costliest project of Rajamouli’s career to date. This makes the movie one of the biggest Indian films ever, second only to Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part 1, which is said to have a budget of more than ₹2,000 crore.
The team is taking a short break from filming Varanasi, but they should be back to work soon. The movie is being filmed in many different countries, which shows how global it wants to be. Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays a key role in the story, adds even more weight to the ensemble.

KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya are making the magnum opus, and Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani is writing the music. Varanasi is already being called one of the most anticipated Indian films of the decade because of its huge scale, star-studded cast, and Rajamouli's track record of making blockbusters. It looks like the movie will come out in theatres in 2027.
