Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan has opened up about his surprise at learning that his upcoming film Parasakthi will release alongside Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan during the Pongal festival, admitting that the overlap caught him off guard. Speaking at the Parasakthi audio launch event, he revealed that the clash was not originally part of his team’s plan and that he was taken aback when both films ended up in the same lucrative box‑office window.
Parasakthi — a political and historical drama set in the 1960s — was initially slated to release in Diwali 2025, but the team postponed the date to Pongal 2026 to avoid directly competing with Vijay’s film. When Sivakarthikeyan learned that Jana Nayagan was also shifting to Pongal, he said he was genuinely “shocked” and immediately reached out to his producer to explore the possibility of changing the release date again.
He clarified, "I was shocked to learn both the films were releasing for Pongal. I called our producer and asked him if we could change our release date. But all the investors had been informed about the Pongal release and moving the film to summer 2026 would be tough because of the Tamil Nadu elections. I also spoke to Jagadish (Vijay's manager) to ask him to check if it was OK with Vijay sir. Jagadish called me back and said that Vijay sir said that since it was Pongal, both films can release and won't affect the box office of either. Vijay sir also conveyed his best wishes. Vijay sir has entertained us for 33 years. Watch Jana Nayagan and then watch Parasakthi on January 10. This is an 'annanthambi' (elder brother- younger brother) Pongal!"

Parasakthi is now scheduled for release on January 10, a day after Jana Nayagan hits theaters on January 9, and both films are expected to dominate the Pongal box office.
