Sheena Chohan recently engaged in a conversation with acclaimed author B. Jeyamohan about the film’s narrative depth and character journey, marking a meaningful creative exchange ahead of her Tamil cinema debut with Arjunanin Allirani.
Widely known for her pan-Indian body of work, actress Sheena Chohan is now stepping into Tamil cinema with Arjunanin Allirani, a folk-rooted drama that represents a significant milestone in her artistic journey. The actress, who was recently in Pune attending the Pune International Film Festival, described the project as an exciting new chapter in her career. It was during the festival that Sheena met celebrated author and screenwriter B. Jeyamohan, a meeting that eventually led to an important artistic collaboration.
Written by renowned Tamil author B. Jeyamohan and directed by Vino Vikraman Pillai, best known for Kafir, the film also features music by legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja. This collaboration brings together powerful literary, musical, and cinematic forces.
Director Vino is currently immersed in pre-production, carefully shaping the creative and technical framework of the film. Industry insiders describe the project as “quietly shaping into something uniquely epic and culturally resonant.”
Speaking about working with Jeyamohan, Sheena said, “His approach to epic and folk narratives is powerful and deeply authentic. It’s inspiring to work with someone who treats tradition with such contemporary clarity.”
For director Vino Vikraman Pillai, casting Sheena Chohan came naturally. “She showed immediate commitment to the character and the physicality it demands,” he said.
Arjunanin Allirani revolves around the lives of two impoverished folk artists—a Dalit singer and a folk dancer—whose relationship forms the emotional core of the story.
Sheena essays the role of Rani, a character whose journey unfolds across four distinct phases of life, from youth to middle age. The role also demands rigorous preparation, including intensive training in a traditional Tamil martial art involving stick fighting.
Produced by Irfan Khan under the banner of EBG Films, Arjunanin Allirani marks Sheena Chohan’s Tamil cinema debut following her acclaimed work in Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Hindi, and international projects. The film is expected to offer a fresh and immersive cinematic celebration of folklore, heritage, and epic storytelling.
