  • Parasakthi's release was based on festival timing, not rivalry with Vijay's film
  • Both Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan faced censor issues before their release

Parasakthi director Sudha Kongara gave a heartfelt response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the censor certification issues faced by Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, while also clarifying there was no intent on her part to compete with the superstar’s release.

Speaking to India Today, Kongara described herself as “probably the biggest fan of Vijay” and said she would happily attend the first-day, first-show of his films, underlining her admiration for his work. She revealed that the two were once set to collaborate on a film, but the project did not pan out due to various reasons.

Explaining her position, Sudha said that she is a long-time admirer of Thalapathy Vijay. She expressed disappointment over how the situation came through, stating that the controversy surrounding Jananayagan should never happen to any film or filmmaker.

She said, "I love Vijay, I am probably his biggest fan, Mr. Vijay is aware of it, In fact we were supposed to do a film together. that didn't pan out, he is one actor I have loved."

Dismissing reports of competition, she said "I have watched Vijay's sir's FDFS, never would I compete with him, how does one compete with the biggest star in the country. I have the same immense love for him."

Kongara also reiterated that Parasakthi’s release was driven by its own festival timing and not by any strategic move against Jana Nayagan. She explained that both films faced censor-related challenges, but Parasakthi eventually secured clearance and hit theatres on January 10. For her, the focus remains on healthy competition and mutual respect within the industry, especially during high-profile festival releases

Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi features Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa Murali and Ravi Mohan in pivotal roles. The film is a socio-political drama set in 1960s Tamil Nadu, centring on the State’s student-driven anti-Hindi agitation.
