For someone who seems to defy time, Neil Nitin Mukesh has chosen a fitting way to celebrate his 44th birthday — by stepping into completely new territory.
The actor, who has left his mark on Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema over the years, is now ready for his first-ever Malayalam film.
The announcement has come as a pleasant surprise for fans and marks an exciting new chapter in his steadily evolving career.
The news was officially unveiled today by the team behind Khalifa, an upcoming revenge thriller directed by Vysakh. Welcoming Neil Nitin Mukesh into Malayalam cinema, leading man Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a warm birthday message on Instagram that instantly caught attention. He wrote, “Happy birthday, Neil Nitin Mukesh! Welcome to the Malayalam film industry! #KHALIFA”.
Clearly moved by the moment, Neil Nitin Mukesh also shared the update on his own social media, expressing pride in joining a new film industry.
His caption reflected both excitement and gratitude as he wrote, “Going for Gold !!! Proud to announce my first film in the Malayalam film industry! #KHALIFA.”
At the heart of Khalifa is Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays a character named Aamir Ali. The actor had earlier teased the film’s tone and scale on his birthday last year, hinting at a story driven by legacy and vengeance. He wrote, “A revenge forged by a lineage that spans generations! Next onam.. Aamir Ali will write his vengeance in gold! #KHALIFA – The Ruler.”
The film dives into the shadowy world of a massive gold smuggling network operating out of the Middle East, with connections stretching from London and Nepal all the way to Kerala.
A previously released glimpse offered a tense interrogation scene between a customs officer named Panicker and an elderly man, subtly setting up the looming conflict surrounding Aamir Ali.
For director Vysakh, Khalifa marks a reunion with Prithviraj Sukumaran after 15 years, following their blockbuster Pokkiri Raja. Written by Jinu V Abraham, the film promises slick action and gripping chase sequences, including portions shot in the United Kingdom.
Though announced in 2022, the project officially went on floors in 2025. With its grand scale, international backdrop and Neil Nitin Mukesh’s addition to the cast, Khalifa is shaping up to be a major Onam 2026 release.
